We are in Ghana today. Ghana is a very peace country. Senegal was know as peaceful a country along side Ghana. But now Senegal can not be considered so.
GHANA PASSED A LAW ON LGBT
What is happening in Ghana now? Ghana has passed a law. This law is against men who like to be with other men to do what they want to do. If you understand what I mean. I am sorry that I have to say it this way. Because some people are very touchy on this subject, for whatever reasons.
The Ghanaian’s parliament sat together and passed this Anti-LGBTQ law. This took three years. This is to make it illegal for men to practice this idea and also to make it illegal to promote this idea in Ghana. Before the law was pass, any man cut in this act was to be arrest and locked up for three years.
But now, it is has been make official that anyone that identify with LGBT or promotes it, will be arrested and locked up in jail for minimum of three years. By promoting, also means funding it. Also 10 years in jail for LGBT advocacy campaign to children. Though this moves has been condemned by right activist. This bill was pass 28th of February 2024.
DOES GHANA HAVE THE RIGHT TO PASS LAWS AGAINST LGBT
Now, the question is can Ghana do this? Well, let me remind you that Ghana belongs to the Ghanaians. Obviously, they can do what they want with their country. Or what do you think? I guess the answer depends on how the individual perceive life and also who makes the rules. For instance if you go to Japan, you have to greet like them. If you go to Dubai, you can’t wear mini-skirt or show romantic affection in public. Even if you are married couples. Is it your right to do all this in a foreign country. Well, yes probably in your country. Laws apply in your country the same way they are applies in other countries. So if you go to other countries (say Saudi Arabia etc..) you need to act accordingly to avoid issues with the law.
RIGHTS ACTIVIST SPEAK AGAINST THIS LGBT LAW PASSED
As Ghana is concerned, rights activist are saying, before the law was passed LGBT man were pushed against. So now that the law is finally passed, What is it going to be like for these man. Will they experience violence. Will people start accusing other man falsely of LGBT identity in order to weaponize the law against foes. After all, someone can be accused of witchcraft in Ghana and be investigated on that premise. There are claims that the bill is the harshest of it’s kind in Africa. Though, the harshest was said to be that of Uganda.
UGANDA’S LAW AGAINST LGBT
Let us remember that Uganda had a very similar situation to Ghana. In that Uganda’s parliament decided to prohibit this LGBT acts among the Ugandan people. The Ugandan authorities were condemned and accused. This was even though the Ugandan authorities allowed the practice in the confines (house) of the LGBT indulger, but not in public. The Ugandan authorities will not allow it to to promoted to Ugandan children.
PUSH BACKS AGAINST UGANDA FOR PASSING LAWS AGAINST LGBT
Because of these Ugandan decisions, Uganda has suffered some restrictions. As a result AID was stopped to Uganda, World Bank stopped sending money to Uganda, Ugandan government official’s visa to the USA were cancelled and USAID stopped sending money to help HIV victims in Uganda. With respect to Money meant for HIV patients in Uganda, these patients were not the ones who voted the law to be. They are not the members of parliament.
GHANA THREATENS IF IT’S LGBT LAW SUFFERS PUSH BACKS FROM INTERNATIONAL COUMMUNITIES
The Ghanaians looked at what was done to Uganda, when Uganda took this bold step against LGBT. The Ghanaian dared the international community to do same to them in Ghana. The Ghanaians threatened to Block and stop all Americans and their businesses from functioning in Ghana, if the international community dare to punish Ghana with restrictions based on the LGBT law in Ghana. Now we don’t know if this Ghanaian threats are really what Ghanaians will do. Time will tell.
WHY AFRICAN COUNTRIES, NOT ARAB COUNTRIES
Let us thinks critically. Look at Saudi Arabia. As a foreigner in Saudi Arabia, you can’t wear mini-skirt and you can’t go smoking in the street. Similarly in other countries, you have to respect their laws and culture. Are we to say Uganda and Ghana don’t have cultures to be respected.
Should you live by the rule, when you visit another country? I think YES.
We know that there were times when American presidents were sent to Africa to defend LGBT ideas. For example Kamala Harris went to Nigeria for this cause. Obama did same to Kenya.
What is the pressure for? Why do you want Africans to live like the Europeans? Why don’t you pressure Arab nations like Saudi Araba, Qatar, Dubai etc.. to live like the Europeans? But you have the time to pressure Africans to live like the Europeans.
